With many platforms being consolidated, the killing off of the process is occurring, leaving room for lack of quality. Also in turn creating conditions for the hungry independent artist. A niche that many are fitting so well.

They produce at their will. Create ideas and notions far bigger than you or I. Work the business side like money and at the end of the day make it happen. It’s what being independent is, and has been for some time. It’s easy to follow the recipe; produce, produce, produce, shoot inquiries, demo demo’s, shop more demo’s, send resume/portfolio, produce, hope for call back on demo or resume/portfolio, produce a little more and at the end of the day attempt to remain optimistic about the situation. But the catch is and what’s not easy, is that it never stops. Regardless of what happens, one thing remains the common denominator, being independent. And for some it pays off, while for others it becomes the cliche starving artist scene.

Many artists have hunkered down and taken the helm, leaving very little to labels, firms, managers or agents to decide. From P.R effort to branding/image of their medium, the successful independent artist is constantly in the trenches firing off what they consider to be a valid effort. Getting on a major label or apprehending an agent is perhaps not so much the aim of an independent artist. With so much control over their identity and work, the savvy creative type makes it happen regardless. Slaving for what he/she considers valid or productive.
